Polish Television launches Alfa TVP

Poland’s public broadcaster TVP is launching a local-language channel for teenagers called Alfa TVP, which is claims is the first service of its kind. Due to debut on December 20, Alfa TVP will include educational and entertainment programmes as well as locally-produced scripted series. The aim of the initiative is to extend the scope of TVP’s activities into a relatively underserved section of the population.

TVP says the new offer is addressed to audiences born in the digital era (between 2010 and 2025). There will be particular emphasis on emotional development – aimed at kids impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The mission of the new channel “is to build self-esteem and a sense of community among today’s teenagers”.

Mateusz Matyszkowicz, president of the management board at TVP said the channel reflects the pubcaster’s “concern for growing viewers. It is an honour to propose a channel that will combine attractiveness with safety and educational values.”

At launch, content on offer will include animation series and popular scripted series like Malory Towers. There are also plans to adds Japanese anime series.

A digital-first channel, Alfa TVP will be available on platforms including the tvp.pl website and in the TVP GO app. Ultimately, Alfa TVP will be available on cable TV.
