Metavision reinvents BBC3 show Wreck for Fortnite

Metavision, a part of ITV’s Studio 55 Ventures, has created an immersive version of BBC 3 show Wreck for gaming platform Fortnite. The bespoke experience created in partnership with 3D Lab has now launched in Fortnite Creative.

In the Fortnite version of the comedy horror show, produced by Euston Films, players take part in the murder mystery set aboard a cruise ship. They are assigned a faction and have to complete tasks whilst avoiding being eliminated. Meanwhile, a detective must figure out who the hunter is and send them to the brig before it is too late.

Extending Wreck to Fortnite Creative is part of the broadcaster’s attempt to reach younger native audiences by building relevant content across Fortnite Creative, social platforms and BBC owned channels. Fiona Campbell, controller of BBC Three said: “We’re always looking for creative new ways to push BBC Three into brand new territories, so it’s a real delight to expand the world of Wreck on to Fortnite.” She said the new metaverse initiative would be of interest to young audiences “whether you’ve watched all six episodes already or are completely new to the series.”

Rhys Hancock, co-founder and managing director at Metavision, added: “This dynamic multi-platform campaign is laser focused on helping the BBC develop deeper relationships with harder to reach gaming native audiences where they spend their time. I can’t wait to see players team up to solve the murder mystery at sea.”

The TV series is a thriller, mixing comedy with a slice of slasher, set aboard The Sacramentum cruise ship. The series follows 20-year-old new recruit Jamie as he infiltrates the 3000 strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister.
