RTVE picks up Copa del Rey

Spanish pubcaster RTVE has picked up rights to football’s Copa del Rey, with the competition’s rights valuation skyrocketing.

RTVE’s three-year deal will run from 2022-25, with the broadcaster airing 15 games per season from the country’s premiere knockout football contest. This includes the semi-finals and final.

The second Copa del Rey package for the remaining matches will be awarded in the coming weeks.

The rights had previously been held by Mediaset in a deal worth around €14 million in 2019, with the company subsequently sublicensing the rights to DAZN.

Announcing the deal with RTVE, the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) said that the rights value has skyrocketed for the new cycle, and that the Copa del Rey could fetch more than €120 million across all markets. This would represent a value more than three times in excess of the amount received in 2018.
