Orange Spain claims leading position in voice with Amazon Alexa integration

Orange Spain has integrated Amazon Alexa with its TV service to enable users to control the service using voice commands.

Orange said the move made it the only operator in Spain to enable subscribers to control the TV using any device that has Amazon Alexa integrated. The move is the latest voice control initiative by the operator, which has allowed users to control Orange TV using Google Assistant since 2019.

Orange said the service comes at no extra charge to the user and that the only requirements are a device with Amazon Alexa on board and an Orange TV set-top box.

The company said that using Amazon Alexa would enable customers to go beyond basic actions such as controlling the on-off switch and changing the volume of their TV to accessing the entire content offering of Orange TV using voice commands.

“We are delighted that Orange has teamed up with Amazon Alexa to offer its customers the possibility of controlling their TV experience using something as simple as voice. Alexa is continuing to make day-to-day life simpler for more and more people,” said Carlos Fernández Casares, head of the Alexa business in Spain.

Our objective with the control of Orange TV by voice is to propose a natural interaction with the TV to our customers, which enables access to the content they want to see at any time, independent of the voice device they have. Another step forward in our ambition to offer the best user experience with Orange TV,” said Carlos Ruff, head of operations at Orange TV.
