OnlyFans tries to shake adult image with free OFTV app

Creator-driven subscription service OnlyFans has announced the launch of a new streaming platform and app.

While it is best known for revolutionising the adult entertainment industry by allowing performers to create their own direct-to-consumer offerings, OnlyFans is looking to move away from its purely NSFW branding with this new app.

The new OFTV app, available free-to-view on Android, iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Samsung Smart TV, will feature many regular OnlyFans creators but in a strictly PG setting.

In an attempt to distance itself from its purely adult trappings, OnlyFans said that OFTV features content from “genres including fitness, cooking, comedy, music, and more.”

At launch, OFTV’s content library consists of over 800 videos from over 100 creators including existing non-adult channels such as Cheri Fit, Yoga with Taz, and Tennis Class with Adi.

Tim Stokely, OnlyFans founder and CEO, said: “From the onset of launching OnlyFans, we have been a creator-first platform to give creators further autonomy and power over their content. We’re all about giving creators more opportunities to get their content out there and more ways for our community to access it.”

Speaking to Bloomberg earlier this year, Stokely expressed the company’s desire to move beyond being a purely adult platform and as a destination like Patreon, where creators of all shapes and sizes can fund their content creation.

Overall, OnlyFans is made up of more than one million creators and ended 2020 with 85 million users generating US$2 billion in sales for the year.
