Volia starts selling Android TV boxes

Ukrainian cable operator Volia has begun distributing an Android TV 9.0-based set-top box.

The Smart TV VOL001 runs on Android TV 9.0 and provides access to the Google Play Store and services including YouTube, Google Play Movies and Google Cast.

Volia is also offering its own Android TV app pre-installed on the box, enabling subscribers to watch its content via the onscreen menu.

The new offering is prepaid, with users only paying for content they select.

The new box comes with a Bluetooth remote control and Volia is providing delivery, connection and after-sales service. Volia is selling the box at retail, and users can purchase it without signing up to the cable operator’s own service.

The device comes with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of Flash memory, and can display 4K content.

In a market known for a high level of piracy, Volia is also pitching the box as a legitimate alternative for consumers that do no necessarily want to sign up for a pay TV contract.

“Our company stands for licensed content and makes every effort to combat piracy. The Google licence is a guarantee of quality and security, which we were able to provide to our users “said Anton Dzyubenko, CEO of Volia.
