BBC and China’s Tencent to launch BBC Earth fan community

The BBC’s content arm, BBC Studios, has partnered with Chinese internet services provider Tencent to launch a new BBC Earth fan community called BBC Earth Tribe.

The BBC Earth Tribe site is due to go live this evening in China and will offer more than 650 hours of BBC Studios’ natural history and documentary programmes, as well as Q&As with BBC Natural History Unit producers.

The two companies will work together to grow BBC Earth Tribe into a Chinese online community for people passionate about natural history and science, with the pact part of a wider multi-year partnership between BBC Studios and Tencent.

Tencent has also come on board as a co-production partner on Dynasties, the BBC’s forthcoming natural history series, which will be presented by David Attenborough and has been four years in the making.

The major five-part series from BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit will broadcast simultaneously with the UK in China on Tencent’s v.qq.com platform.

Dynasties is BBC Studios’ third natural history co-production deal with Tencent, having partnered on Planet Earth II in 2016 and Blue Planet II in 2017.
