TV technology provider MobiTV has launched the MobiTV Connect Platform, an IP-based platform to allow cable operators to provide their services via apps on consumer devices rather than by deploying set-top boxes.
According to MobiTV, pay TV and cable operator can use the technology via an in-network deployment or turn to MobiTV to provide a managed service. MobiTV has developed apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Android TV, Chromecast, PC and Macs, iPhones, iPads, Android mobile and Android tablets. It also provide a unicast IP delivery platform encompassing CMS, DRM, Media Player, nDVR, content policy, identity management, billing and authentication.
US wireless and cable operator C Spire has signed up to use the platform.
“The in-home TV experience is changing rapidly, creating both challenges and opportunities for providers as they navigate the new reality of delivering pay TV services in today’s market,” said Charlie Nooney, CEO of MobiTV. “This is only the beginning for us. We continue to break barriers and utilise our long-history in the video delivery space to help more companies’ future-proof their offerings through our ever-evolving, agile solutions within the video delivery ecosystem.”
