Albanian service provider ALBtelecom has chosen Amino to provide set-top boxes for an IPTV service that is currently being rolled out across the country.

ALBtelecom will deploy Amino’s HD set-tops as part of a – package that is being rolled out initially to Korçë and Pogradec in south-eastern Albania. The service will be rolled out across the whole country via ALBtelecom’s fibre and DSL network over the remainder of the summer.

ALBtv is offering a multiscreen service with a range of popular news, sport and entertainment content distributed to TVs, tablets and smartphones, plus a video-on-demand service.

ALBtelecom serves around 230,000 subscribers, with an 80% share of the country’s fixed-line market. Over the last five years the company has invested over €150 million in building out a fibre backbone. ALBtelecom is offering four bundled packages, including between 50-100 channels and 1Mbps to 8Mbps internet access for between ALL1,300-4,000 (€9-28).

“We will always bring to the Albanian market the best service and latest technology, and in our effort to successfully launch IPTV, Amino has been instrumental in securing reliable and top quality products,” said ALBtelecom chief marketing officer Floreta Zhulali.

“We’re delighted to secure this strategic and important contract with one of eastern Europe’s most vibrant IPTV service providers. The combination of Amino’s award winning technology and ALBtelecom’s future thinking philosophy is a compelling proposition and we look forward to supporting their service rollout,” said Amino CEO Donald McGarva.
