Hungary continues to grow digital TV subscriber base

Hungary’s leading pay TV operators had a collective digital subscriber base of 1.773 million at the end of August, up from 1.748 million at the end of June.

The research from regulator NMHH found that out of a total of four million TV households, over 3.2 million subscribe to a TV service.

Information taken from pay TV operators Magyar Telekom, Invitel, UPC Magyarország, Digi, PR-Telecom, Tarr, ViDaNet, Parisat, Hello HD, UPC DTH and Antenna Hungária, which account for 88% of all subscribers, shows that 61.7% of households take a digital service. Cable and IPTV platforms account for 780,000 digital subs, up from 770,000. DTH accounts for 922,000 and Antenna’s MinDig TV Extra service accounts for the remaining 71,000.

UPC is the leading operator for digital services with a market share of 26.6%, followed by DIGI with a 23.5% share and Magyar Telekom with a 22.7% share.
