International news broadcaster Euronews has launched in Ukraine. The news network had signed a deal with the national broadcaster NTU in October to launch its channel and it has now gone live.
The channel will be run by British journalist Fidel Pavlenko and will be the channel’s 11th language version. Ukraine president Viktor Yanukovych said: “We are opening a new page in the history of the Ukrainian information space. Today Ukraine demonstrates another step towards the European community. The world for those who speak Ukrainian is getting closer and clearer.”
The country’s leading cable operator, Volia, is carrying the channel on both its analogue and digital tiers (with English, Italian, German, French, Spanish and Russian versions also being available on the latter).
