TopTV set to shake up SA pay-TV market

South Africa’s newest pay-TV platform TopTV will launch tomorrow. The low cost service, run by On Digital Media, is set to shake up the country’s pay-TV market which is currently monopolised by incumbent provider DStv.

TopTV’s most extensive package will offer 52 channels for ZAR249 (€25.53) per month, almost half the cost of DStv’s premium package. The cheapest package will cost ZAR99, while a decoder, dish and installation fees will cost customers ZAR499. Multichoice, owner of DStv, recently launched a new low cost package to compete with TopTV, called DStv Lite, which offers 25 channels for ZAR99 per month.

Kids channel KidsCo today announced it would be added to the TopTV line-up, joining other channels including Fox News, Current TV, CBS and Showtime.
