Amazon Prime unveils Nordic originals

Having already invested heavily in local content for France, Italy and Spain, Amazon Prime has now unveiled a slate of originals for the Nordic territories. One of them is LOL, a reality series that has already performed well in other markets for the streamer.

The platform has also ordered four local versions of hidden camera show Pranked for each of the main Nordic territories, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. These will be produced by ITV Studios. There will also be four versions of Fremantle’s dating format Sweathearts and Banijay’s adventure format Good Luck Guys.

Other highlights of the new slate include a three-year content licensing agreement with Nordisk Film and a scripted comedy Toppen. The Nordisk deal will cover a range of content from kids content to blockbuster films like John Wick: Chapter 4.

“With a growing number of Nordic Originals and the Nordisk Film slate announced today, it demonstrates our commitment to the Nordics in the long term,” said Martin Backlund, head of UK and Nordics content at Amazon Prime Video. “We’re striving to offer customers a great selection of content across our global Amazon Original series and movies, the newest movie releases, and locally produced and acquired content.”
