Telefónica secures UEFA Champions League and US Open tennis

LaLiga Digital VirgoTelefónica has secured rights to the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League football for the three seasons from 2024 until 2027 for a reported €320 million per season, along with rights to US Open tennis for its Movistar Plus+ TV service.

Telefónica will also air the UEFA Youth League as part of its overall football offering.

The telco also holds the right to retransmit Spain’s LaLiga, along with DAZN, giving it a complete football offering.

Rival telco Orange will be able to air part of Spain’s LaLiga together with the UEFA international competitions for the coming season under a licensing deal, which may or may not be repeated for the subsequent three seasons.

In addition to Spanish and international football, Movistar Plus+ will broadcast the Supercopa de España, the European Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, Germany’s Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A.

Streamer DAZN holds the rights to the English Premier League while Warner Bros. Discovery’s Eurosport holds the rights to France’s Ligue 1.

Telefónica and Movistar Plus+ have meanwhile also secured the rights to US Open tennis, the first time it has held the rights to this competition.

The US Open will be available to Movistar Plus+ customers for €14. The US tournament joins a tennis line-up on the platform that includes Wimbledon, the Davis Cup, the ATP Masters 1000 series, the ATP 500 series and the best of the ATP 250 along with, via Eurosport, the Australian Open and French Open.
