Amazon launches ‘best Fire TV streaming media player yet’

Amazon has revealed a pair of product upgrades to its streaming devices.

The largest of the upgrades comes with the third generation Fire TV Cube. Described by the company as “Amazon’s best Fire TV streaming media player yet”, the latest Cube features a new octa-core 2.0 GHz processor that makes it 20% more powerful than the previous generation.

The voice-controlled device also, in what Amazon says is an industry first, includes an HDMI input port. This will allow Alexa voice control to switch inputs and, utilising HDMI-CEC, set commands to the external devices.

In addition, Fire TV Cube is the first streaming media player in the industry with Wi-Fi 6E support. This should allow users to avoid interference in increasingly congested home networks.

The other product launch is the Alexa Voice Remote Pro. The new remote features two new customisable buttons along with an innovative feature to help users find a misplaced remote with their voice. Users can say  “Alexa, find my remote” or use the dedicated Remote Finder button in Fire TV app, and the remote’s built-in speaker will emit an audible ring to attract your attention.

Alexa Voice Remote Pro is compatible with most Fire TV streaming media players, Amazon Fire TV smart TVs, and Smart TVs with Fire TV built-in.

The new Fire TV Cube will launch in the US at US$139.99, while Alexa Voice Remote Pro will be available for US$34.99.

Amazon also announced the new Fire TV Omni QLED Series with the new Fire TV Ambient Experience.
