Kim Kardashian launches media-focused private equity firm

L-R: Kim Kardashian, Jay Sammons

Entrepreneur, reality TV star and aspiring lawyer Kim Kardashian has been revealed as the founding member of a new private equity firm.

The business, which is co-founded with former Carlyle Group partner Jay Sammons, will be named SKKY Partners. It will be focused on investing in consumer and media businesses, across sectors such as media, digital commerce, consumer products, hospitality and luxury with both control and minority investments.

The pair will serve as co-founders and co-managing partners, with Sammons handling day-to-day operations. Sammons is an experienced investor who spent 16 years at Carlyle as head of its consumer, media and retail division.

Kardashian’s celebrity mother, Kris Jenner, will also serve as a partner in the private equity firm.

Kardashian herself has developed into a shrewd – albeit controversial – business person, and has seen success with her ventures such as clothing brand Skims (valued at US$3.2 billion earlier this year) and makeup company KKW.

Announcing the firm on Twitter, Kardashian posted: “Together we hope to leverage our complementary expertise to build the next generation Consumer & Media private equity firm.”
