Amazon expands news coverage in the US on Fire TV

Amazon’s news app for Fire TV has dramatically expanded the scope of its coverage in the US.

The app, which first launched in 12 cities in 2020, will now offer live and on-demand free local news to 158 cities across the country. The service will also double the local stations available from 126 to 259.

The free news app is supported on all Fire TV devices. No extra steps are required to set up, and the app will automatically provide users with regional news. This local news can be found within the news app, or via Alexa voice commands.

In comments to The Verge, a spokesperson for Amazon confirmed that more than 50 metro areas in the US now offer more than one local news source in the news app.
