Eurovision signs US distribution deal with Netflix

Continental singing contest Eurovision has announced a distribution deal with Netflix.

The agreement will see the semi-finals and grand final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest available to watch on Netflix in the United States, with the 2020 contest in the Netherlands available on-demand after the event takes place.

In keeping with Netflix’s staunch aversion to live broadcasting, the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest will not be available to stream live.

Eurovision song contest executive supervisor Jon Ola Sand said: “The European Broadcasting Union is thrilled that the world’s biggest entertainment show will now be available on-demand for viewers in the USA, one of the biggest TV markets.

“US viewers will now get to enjoy all three of this year’s fantastic shows for the first time as well as the entire Contest in 2020. This is perfect timing with plans to launch a US version of the Contest in 2021.”
