StarHub brings back Discovery HD and HGTV after dropping CuriosityStream

Singapore pay TV operator StarHub has announced the return of Warner Bros. Discovery channels Discovery HD and HGTV to its programming line-up after an absence of five years.

The channels disappeared from StarHub in 2018 following a dispute over carriage terms, following which StarHub added factual streamer CuriosityStream to its offering.

In a reversal of that move, the pay TV operator has now brought back Discovery’s channels after dropping CuriosityStream at the end of July in what it described as “part of our ongoing efforts to streamline our TV and streaming app offers so that we can bring new and exciting content” to its customers.

Discovery HD and HGTV will join the already-extensive StarHub TV+ line-up of content options from Warner Bros. Discovery that include CNN International, Cartoonito, Cartoon Network, HBO, HBO On Demand, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Hits and Cinemax. Subscribers can also access WBD’s streaming service HBO GO.

Discovery HD and HGTV will be available to new, and existing Entertainment+ customers at no additional cost. StarHub’s Entertainment+ pass costs SGD30.28 (US$22) a month with a two-year contract.

“We are super-excited to explore content that can broaden our viewers’ entertainment options and are thrilled to expand our slate of high-quality channels with the launch of Discovery HD and HGTV, two popular channels from the Warner Bros. Discovery network. Both are great additions to our Entertainment+ channels, and a welcome sight for StarHub customers who are fans of both non-fiction and home-centric lifestyle content,” said Johan Buse, chief, consumer business group, StarHub.

Shonali Bedi, head of affiliate distribution and digital partnerships – Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “The return of two of our most popular channels on StarHub TV means that an even wider audience in Singapore can enjoy the perfect lean-back TV experience. Featuring premium global series such as Property Brothers, Good Bones, Gold Rush and Deadliest Catch, WBD’s widened portfolio of channels on StarHub TV now spans all genres – from drama, movies and factual to kids, family entertainment and news.”
