Bulgaria sets switch off date

Bulgarian authorities have confirmed that the country’s analog TV signal will be switched off at start-September, 2013. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has a draft plan for switchover and has allocated €8.9 million for a public information campaign and the provision of set-tops for groups that cannot afford them.

Vivacom launches TV channel

Bulgarian IPTV operator Vivacom has launched its own TV channel. Vivacom Arena will air sports coverage, including tennis tournaments, and movies. It is available free of charge to Extra package customers and can be added to Start and Standard packs for BGN1.90 (€1) per month.

Blizoo’s Polony to leave company

Bulgarian cable operator Blizoo’s CEO Istvan Polony is to leave the company. Bern Anderson will assume the position of acting CEO and Polony will continue to support the company through a transitional period. Polony (pictured) took the helm at EQT-owned Blizoo in November 2009 following the merger between Eurocom and CableTel that created the company.

Vivacom boosts HD offering

ProSiebenSat.1 sells Bulgarian operations

Germany-based broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 group has sold its Bulgarian music TV channel Voice TV and the radio stations it owns in the country to A.E. Best Success Services Bulgaria for an undisclosed sum. Voice TV, which mostly airs music videos, was originally known as Veselina TV before it was acquired by SBS Broadcasting Group in 2006.
