Serbia to reveal DTT strategy

Serbia is to invest €100m in its digital switchover programme, according to local reports. Telecommunications minister Jasna Matic said he would reveal the country’s strategy for digitising the terrestrial network in June, with a legal framework expected to be finalised by September. Serbia is aiming to switch off analogue signals by 2012.

Kabel BW to launch 100Mbps this year

Freeview appoints head of marketing communications

UK DTT venture Freeview has appointed Tim Hunt as director of marketing communications. Hunt will be responsible for shaping and leading the integrated marketing and PR campaigns for Freeview. He was previously marketing director at Project Kangaroo, the proposed video-on-demand joint venture between Channel 4, BBC Worldwide and ITV.

Baltkom to offer Discovery HD

Latvian cable operator Baltkom is to offer Discovery HD on its TV service from May. Baltkom will be the first service provider in Latvia to offer Discovery HD. The operator already distributes Discovery Channel along with Discovery Science, Discovery World, Discovery Travel & Living and Animal Planet in standard definition.

Unitymedia upgrades Schleiden

German cable operator Unitymedia has begun upgrading its network in the Schleiden area to offer triple-play services. The upgrade covers about 9,100 households in Schleiden, Hellenthal and Kall.

NDS signs EPG licensing deal

Conditional access specialist NDS has signed a multi-year licence agreement with Macrovision Solutions for electronic programme guide (EPG) patents. The agreement provides NDS with a licence to the EPG patents under Macrovision’s Gemstar patent portfolio and allows NDS to offer licensed EPGs to its pay-TV platform operator customers in specified countries.
