EC greenlights Tiscali acquisition

The European Commission has approved ISP and mobile phone operator Carphone Warehouse’s acquisition of Tiscali UK. The Commission said the merger would not have an adverse impact on competition in the domestic broadband or telephony markets.

Naspers ups revenue as subs top 3.3m

Africa-focused media pay-TV company Naspers recorded a 30% increase in revenues of ZAR26.7bn (€2.45bn) for the financial year ended March 31. Sky renews Astra deal

UK pay-TV operator has renewed its capacity deal with satellite operator SES Astra for 24 transponders at the 28.2° East orbital position. In total, Sky is using 31 transponders on the Astra satellite system.  The two parties began working together in 1989 when Sky launched its first analogue multichannel package on the Astra 1A satellite.
