Kabel Deutschland signs On Demand Deutschland VOD deal

German cable operator Kabel Deutschland has signed a deal with On Demand Deutschland to launch a VOD service on its network. The operator said it will offer films from the main studios, along with TV series and music videos. The service will launch early next year.

Unitymedia owners ready for year-end IPO

BC Partners and Apollo Management will float German cable operator Unitymedia by the end of the year, according to local reports. Morgan Stanley and UBS have been appointed to arrange the IPO, which could to raise €300m. BC Partners and Apollo bought Unitymedia for €1.5bn in 2003.

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland has leased more satellite capacity from SES Astra and will use it to roll out more high definition channels. Canal Digital revenues grow but DTH subs fall

Telenor’s Canal Digital pay-TV arm lost 8,000 DTH customers during the third the quarter, taking the total to 1.07 million, while cable TV customers increased by 1,000, taking the total to 733,000. Boxer-owned Finnish DTT pay-TV operator PlusTV has appointed Jyri Ratia as CEO.  Ratia joins from Swelcom, where he was senior vice-president, in charge of new strategic development projects. Previously, he was in charge of sales and marketing for Swelcom-owned cable operator Welho. He will start at PlusTV on January 1.
