RGB upgrades to MPEG 4

Network video processing company RGB Networks has upgraded its dynamic bandwidth manager (DBM) VOD transrater to support MPEG-4. RGB said that by deploying the DBM, operators can deliver up to 50% more VOD programming to subscribers without having to upgrade their current transmission infrastructure.

YouSee turns in positive financial performance

Danish telco TDC reported 1.195 million TV customers at the end of June, up 6.3% year-on-year. The figure included analogue and digital cable subscribers of its YouSee cable operation as well as IPTV subscribers. Open TV teams up with Jinni

Interactive TV specialist Open TV has teamed up content discovery specialist Jinni to collaborate in developing search and recommendation functionality for the TV. Search and recommendation features are expected to be incorporated in the next release of Open TV’s Core 2 middleware, due to be available in the fourth quarter. 

Akado makes AXN Sci-Fi available on analogue

Russian service provider Akado is making Sony Pictures Entertainment’s AXN Sci-Fi channel available on its analogue tier until the end of August. The move is part of Akado’s programme of bringing digital-only channels to analogue viewers in order to encourage them to upgrade.
