Orange sells stake in Kenyan operator to Helios

Orange has struck deal to sell a 70% stake in Telkom Kenya to Helios Investment Partners.

Telkom Kenya is the country’s incumbent fixed-line operator and third-largest mobile network provider. The company had four million mobile customers at the end of June, according to figures published by the regulator. It also operates what Orange describes as a “high-quality mobile data network”.

Helios Investment Partners was one of a group of investors that last  year invested US$130 million (€120 million) in Kenya-based pay TV, programming and broadband provider Wananchi Group, along with private equity firm Emerging Capital Partners, Mauritius-based ATMT and existing Wananchi shareholders Liberty Global and Altice.
