French media regulator ARCOM has extended the term of Marie-Christine Saragosse as president of the country’s overseas media organisation, France Médias Monde.

Saragosse will now helm the organisation for a further five years beginning on April 23 this year.

ARCOM said that in a context of profound transformation in the audiovisual sector and big changes in the financing of publicly-funded audiovisual services in France, it had made the choice of leaning on the experience acquired by Saragosse as head of the group.

The watchdog said that, given the evolution of consumption of media and the growth of international competition, it had taken account of Saragosse’s ambition to reinforce the appeal of France Médias Monde’s services and commitment to the production of free, reliable and independent news. It said it would pay close attention to the group’s digital development going forwards.
