Ziggo Sport increases control of Dutch golf market with new tour deals

Dutch platform Ziggo Sport has secured the exclusive broadcast rights for golf’s prestigious European DP World Tour, in a three-year deal commencing this season. At the same time, the platform has secured live rights to the US PGA Tour as it seeks to consolidate its position as the key golf destination in the Netherlands.

Marcel Beerthuizen, managing director of Ziggo Sport, said: “Golf is an important sport in Ziggo Sport’s portfolio; we have even created our own channel, Ziggo Sport Golf.” In particular, he referenced the fact that the channel will have access to the Dutch Open as part of European Tour deal. “We pay a lot of attention to the Dutch contribution. We also work with the Dutch Golf Federation to promote the sport.”

In addition to its new deals, Ziggo Sport also has rights to the four golf Majors, the Asian Tour, the LPGA Tour and the 2023 Ryder Cup, to be held in Rome later this year. “I am happy that we have succeeded in allowing golf enthusiasts to enjoy the best players and the most beautiful tournaments in the world.”

The world of live golf is the midst of a major period of disruption at the moment, with Warner Brothers Discovery renegotiating its long term partnership with the US PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf project seeking to secure key TV deals.
