Bloomberg Media embraces Papercup’s AI translation technology

Business and financial information provider Bloomberg Media has revealed a partnership with UK-based AI start-up, Papercup, to localise hundreds of hours of video content through AI dubbing on YouTube for Spanish-speaking audiences in Latin America and the US. The localised content, which will consist of news, market analysis and documentaries, is expected to reach millions of viewers in the next year, allowing Bloomberg’s content library to reach previously untapped audiences.

Founded in 2017, Papercup’s machine learning-based system adapts videos into other languages using synthetic voices with true emotional depth. Customers upload their videos, choose a target language and then receive a translated version with a synthetic voiceover that is indistinguishable from human voices. Content AI dubbed by Papercup has already reached 300m people in non-English speaking territories. According to Papercup, it generates content that outperforms subtitled offerings and can be delivered at a scale and price that traditional dubbing struggles to match.
