Deutsche Telekom TV base sees modest growth in Q3

Deutsche Telekom saw modest growth in its TV base in the third quarter. The telco had 4.071 million TV customers in Germany, up 0.8% or 32,000 subs on the second quarter, while rest-of-Europe subscribers also increased by 32,000 to 4.099 million.

Year-on-year, TV customers in Germany were up 2.6% up, while in the rest of Europe numbers declined by 20.1% following the sale of Telekom Romania.

The German business recorded an increase of 70,000 in the number of TV customers compared with year-end 2021.

Telekom Deutschland’s broadband customer base grew by 63,000 between July and September. Around 80% of Telekom’s broadband consumers in Germany now use a fibre connection, including FTTC and vectoring lines as well as FTTH.

Revenue in the Germany operating segment increased to €6.1 billion in the third quarter of 2022, up by 2.8% against the prior-year period. Growth in adjusted EBITDAaL in the same period was up 3% to €2.5 billion.

For the rest of Europe, subscriber figures were up compared with the previous quarters across the board, with 251,000 mobile contract net additions and 76,000 broadband net additions in addition to the uplift in TV customers.

Telekom said the rest-of-Europe TV growth was attributable among other things to the acquisition of exclusive rights to broadcast sports events. However, it noted that with both telecommunications providers and OTT players offering TV services, the TV market is already saturated in many countries of our segment.
