Changing video consumption habits in the UK – listen to the latest episode of TV Watch now

The latest episode of Digital TV Europe’s podcast TV Watch is now available to stream wherever you get your podcasts.

According to the latest Establishment Survey from the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB), 19.19 million UK homes (that’s 67% of households) had access to an SVOD service. Pretty impressive, but it’s actually a decrease of 382,000, or almost 2%, from 19.57 million in Q1 2022.

Netflix, Prime Video and Sky’s Now all lost subscribers during the period, while Disney+ and Apple TV+ increased their bases.

Taken in isolation, one might attribute this dip to the UK’s ongoing cost-of-living crisis, but there are multiple different factors at play including streaming fatigue and the increasing number of alternative streaming options available at a lower or no cost.

This episode, BARB CEO Justin Sampson joins host Jonathan Easton to discuss the survey’s in-depth findings, the constantly evolving nature of video consumption in the UK and where the industry is headed in the coming years.

TV Watch can be streamed for free via Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
