Intertrust and Sofia Digital partner for direct-to-TV service

RTL and SevenOne Entertainment are setting up an advertising tech JVIntertrust and Sofia Digital have announced a partnership to offer direct-to-TV services with ExpressPlay XCA.

Intertrust XCA Conditional Access is built on the Marlin open standard for Digital Rights Management, and is compatible with DRM systems. XCA is widely available on TVs across Europe, which Intertrust said makes it “the ideal bridge technology” for the ongoing shift away from STBs.

Manas Matti, managing director, ExpressPlay, said: “We wanted to provide a cost saving option for operators to be able to modernise their distribution platform through a simple API integration allowing consumers the freedom of choice to access content seamlessly. Combining Sofia Digital HbbTV Application with Intertrust ExpressPlay XCA, operators can avoid the costly set-top box device and provide customers premium Direct-to-TV services.”
