Starzplay launches dedicated sports streaming product for MENA market

Lionsgate-owned Starzplay has announced an ambitious plan to disrupt sports streaming in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) with the launch of a new service.

Starzplay Sports, officially unveiled today, will heavily lean on the recently acquired rights to Serie A football to offer a range of sports coverage across two newly-launched channels: AD Sports Premium 1 and AD Sports Premium 2.

In addition to the top-flight Italian football league, Starzplay Sports will be the region’s exclusive broadcaster for the Dutch Eredivisie, the Pakistan Super League, Frank Warren boxing, EuroLeague and EuroCup basketball competitions and PGA Tour along with other sports.

Starzplay Sports will be available across all 19 countries in the region including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Pakistan and Tunisia. It will provide both live and on-demand coverage of sports events.

The Starzplay Sports package will be available as a dedicated content category within the Starzplay app, which is available on Android TV, Apple TV, Smart TVs and on mobile.

Danny Bates, Chief Commercial Officer, Starzplay, said: “As the pioneer of SVOD in the region and since launching our first sports channel in 2021, building an exclusive portfolio of sports in the OTT space has been our strategic priority.

“Now, we are challenging the status quo of sports streaming in the region with Starzplay Sports, a platform like no other that will provide sports lovers more reasons to cheer. We are dedicated to ensuring that the best sports entertainment is readily accessible to our subscribers. For this, we leverage cutting-edge technology to bring users a seamless, high-quality experience and the best industry low latency live streaming possible.”
