Football focus – listen to the latest episode of TV Watch

The latest episode of Digital TV Europe’s podcast TV Watch is now available to stream wherever you get your podcasts.

In the latest episode, host Jonathan Easton speaks with FIFA+ commissioning editor James Abraham about the football governing body’s ambitions for streaming; and with Omdia senior principal analyst Tim Westcott about the merger of BT Sport and Eurosport.

In something of an unexpected move in April, FIFA announced the launch its own streaming platform.

The free-to-view FIFA+ will broadcast over 29,000 men’s matches and over 11,000 women’s matches from 100 member associations across all six confederations by the end of 2022.

But FIFA+ is not the only recent bit of news in the sports broadcasting landscape.

Following the announcement of exclusive talks between the pair in February, last month BT and Warner Bros. Discovery (that’s the combination of WarnerMedia and Discovery) announced the creation of a joint-venture that will merge BT Sport and Eurosport.

The combined entity will pool together premium sports rights including UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the English Premier League, Premiership Rugby, UFC, the Olympic Games, tennis Grand Slams, cycling Grand Tours AND the winter sports World Cup season.

TV Watch can be streamed for free via Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
