7.7 million Spaniards watch Champions League Final

Real Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League Final victory over Liverpool was Spain’s most watched iteration of the final since 2014.

Spanish public broadcaster RTVE said that it attracted an average audience of 7.7 million viewers, translating to a 52.8% share of all TV viewing. Viewership peaked at 8.7 million on La 1, while just shy of 720,000 watched on streaming service RTVE Play.

Other broadcasters across Europe have also revealed their viewing figures for the final.

France’s TF1 attracted 5.9 million viewers, while Canal+’s coverage was viewed by 1.06 million. In Italy meanwhile, Canale 5’s coverage of the final was viewed by 6.1 million with Sky Italia’s coverage watched by 1.07 million.

Despite Spain’s national interest in the event, it was Germany which had the largest viewing audience. An average of 8.39 million watched pubcaster ZDF’s coverage of the final, which saw it achieve a 34.5% market share. DAZN is yet to release its viewing figures.

Another broadcaster yet to reveal its viewing figures is BT Sport, which simultaneously showed the match free-to-air on its digital channels and on YouTube. Its coverage of 2021’s final between Chelsea and Manchester City was watched by 8.7 million.

On the other side of the sport, DAZN last week revealed record viewing figures for the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final with a live cumulative viewership of 3.6 million globally across DAZN, DAZN’s UWCL YouTube channel, and 11 free-to-air channels in Europe.
