EMG appoints former ITN field ops head O’Brien as group CTO

Broadcast service provider EMG has announced the appointment of Lucy O’Brien as group CTO.

The exec will be tasked with leading EMG’s technical strategy, developing its technological roadmap, managing its country CTOs across Europe and the US and be responsible for recruiting the technical team at the group.

In addition, O’Brien will have a particular focus on the continued drive of EMG’s overall transition to IP technology and enhancing EMG’s IP broadcast workflow diPloy; alongside developing EMG’s remote and decentralised production capabilities.

O’Brien has a well-established career in broadcast engineering that spans over 20 years, including roles at the BBC, Sky, Discovery, Arqiva and as head of field operations at ITN. She joins from GBNews where she was one of the key technical figures in launching the channel.

O’Brien said: “I’m excited to be joining an established market leader like EMG. The group has some of the best engineering minds in the industry and I relish the chance to shape its technical journey and support in EMG in achieving even more success in the market.”

Shaun Gregory, CEO, EMG, said: “Lucy is a very experienced technologist, having worked in many areas in the broadcast industry in a range of varied roles. Her extensive experience and broad skillset make her the perfect candidate to lead our technical transformation and champion our charge to an IP-led future.
