Irdeto partners with TASS for China-oriented DRM solution

Security firm Irdeto has announced a collaboration with Beijing Jiangnan Tianan Technology Co (TASS) to launch a multi-DRM solution including China DRM.

Irdeto Control On-Premises also includes support for leading commercial DRMs such as Microsoft PlayReady, Google Widevine, Apple FairPlay. The product is the licensed version of Irdeto Control, and will allow Chinese operators to deploy their services in China and worldwide.

China’s digital rights management market is fragmented across device types and platforms, meaning that operators have had to source multiple suppliers to meet their DRM needs. This is an issue which Irdeto Control On-Premises is looking to solve

Shane McCarthy, COO of Video Entertainment at Irdeto, said: “This partnership will result in strong solutions offered to Chinese customers that carry the same technology proven at scale, supporting billions of licences every month. It will enable them to enjoy the complete DRM capability with wide coverage to multiple devices and platforms and extend their service internationally. They’ll be able to accelerate revenue by using the same industry-approved technology that is available to global streaming services and other content operation platforms.”

Deng Xiaosi, general manager of TASS, said: “We are delighted to be a part of this partnership and look forward to helping content owners and aggregators in China further expand their base of loyal subscribers, who want to be able to watch their favourite movies and shows on the device of their choosing, wherever they want, whenever they want.”
