Cellcom ups chairman to acting CEO as Avi Gabay departs

Israeli telco Cellcom has announced the appointment of chairman Doron Cohen as its acting CEO.

The move comes after Avi Gabay announced his resignation from the group after less than two years. Under Gabay’s leadership, Cellcom enhanced its position in the market by purchasing rival operator Golan Telecom and returned to profitability.

Now no longer associated with Cellcom, Gabay is reportedly joining a group of investors that is seeking to acquire a controlling stake with Partner Communications, another Israeli operator.

Cellcom said that it has begun its search for a permanent CEO. The operator will hold its AGM on December 30, where it will ratify the appointment of Cohen as acting CEO.

As of Q3 2021, Cellcom had 3.246 million cellular, 300,000 internet and 250,000 TV subscribers.
