French pay TV provider Canal+ has responded to the emergence of a new competitor in the shape of Amazon Prime Video by creating a new promotional offering around its Champions League coverage and overall sports offering and by adding two new channels to its service.
With Amazon holding the bulk of rights to French Ligue 1 football under terms that Canal+ has contested, the pay TV incumbent has launched a new promotion for its Champions League coverage and that of BeIN Sports along with Canal+ itself for €25.99 a month for the first year for those signing up to a two-year contract.
The operator has also created a new Champions League experience for viewers including a grid to enable easy access to live matches and the addition of documentary, interview and other material.
Canal+ has also launched new promotions for its Canal+ Sport offering and its Ciné Séries package. Canal+ has also boosted its sports offering with new deals for motorsports rights.
The pay TV provider has also boosted its generalist offering, which now includes five premium exclusive channels – Canal+, Canal+ Series, Canal+ Docs, Canal+ Kids and Canal+ Decale, with content also available on demand.
Canal+ will be offered for €20.99 for the first 12 months for those on a two year contract, while Canal+ Cine Series will be available for €34.99 for the first 12 months.
Canal+ Docs is one of two new channels to be launched by the pay TV provider for the new season. The service will debut along with another new channel, Canal+ Kids, on September 9.
Canal+ Docs, with over 180 titles available at launch, is being postioned as a complement to the operator’s cinema, sport and series offerings.
Canal+ Kids, aimed at 4-12 year olds, will tap the output of production label Ré-Création Originale, with over 30 projects in currently in development, and will have over 5,000 hours of content available at launch.
