Facebook’s Portal TV now has a web browser.
Powered by the Vewd Core HTML 5 SDK for connected TV devices, the web browser gives Facebook’s video chat-oriented smart TV device a way of accessing the internet to stream content not available in an app.
Vewd said that the browser is different from usual web browsers on CTV devices, the browser is designed for connected TV devices with intuitive controls and robust functionality. Features of the app include virtual mouse navigation, integrated on-screen keyboard, full screen tabbed browsing and speed dials for efficient content access.
Aneesh Rajaram, CEO of Vewd, said: “By working with Vewd, Portal TV from Facebook expanded its streaming video experience to complement its native apps and immersive video calling from the biggest screen in the home. We are pleased Facebook selected Vewd to build a video-first content viewing experience for Portal TV to provide another way for consumers to access their favourite content.”
