Movistar+ CEO Burzako restructures pay TV operator’s management

Cristina Burzako, the recently appointed CEO of Telefónica-owned pay TV operator Movistar+, has restructured the management of the outfit. The restructure follows hard on her appointment to the company’s board as director of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital (TAD), the telecom group’s wider audiovisual unit.

Movistar+ will be structured in three vertically integrated departments encompassing sports, entertainment and original fiction.

The sports vertical will be headed by Ignacio-Fernández-Vega, while Juan Andrés García Ropero will head up the entertainment arm. Original fiction will continue to be led by Domingo Corral.

Burzako has also created two strategic directorships focused respectively on alliances and the consumer experience, with these roles still vacant. Burazko said that she intended to “empower these critical areas in a constant adaptation to a world and a sector that has not stopped transforming – the objective is to constantly improve the experience of Movistar+ thanks to technology and artificial intelligence, and always with the user in mind”.

Alex Martínez-Roig, previously content director at Movistar+, will stay with the company as adviser to the CEO on consolidation of the transformation of the platform.

Fernando Jerez, currently director of entertainment and premium content at Movistar+, is to leave the company.

Fernando Enrile will continue to be in charge of user experience and technology, while production activities will continue to be headed up by Domingo Nieto.

The current heads of finance, communication and publicity, legal, HR and marketing will remain in place.

The changes at Movistar+ follow changes at TAD, with Francisco Javier de la Paz Mancho and Antonío Alonso Ureba joining Burzako on the board.

Burzako became CEO of Movistar+ in February following the appointment of Sergio Oslé as CEO of Telefónica España.
