Sunrise UPC extends hockey rights deal for MySports

Sunrise UPC, the new combined Swiss operator from the merger of Liberty Global’s local unit and Sunrise, has struck a deal with Swiss hockey’s National League AG to extend its MySports offering’s rights to the sport for another five years from the start of the 2022 season until the end of the 2027 season.

This partnership now covers all live action and highlight rights for both pay and free TV

The deal means that MySports will continue to broadcast live and exclusive coverage of all National League games as a pay TV service with German, French and, in some cases, Italian commentary.

Coverage of the National League available on free TV will also be extended further with a match of the week to be scheduled during the regular season and broadcast on free TV from next year.

A number of live playoff games will also be shown on free TV. MySports and the National League will provide information about distribution partners and the exact programme formats at a later date.

MySports has held the rights to Swiss hockey, the leading sports property in Switzerland, since it launched in 2017.

The MySports offer is available on the TV platforms of Sunrise UPC, various cable networks of the Suissedigital Association, Swisscom and via an OTT app. Other distribution partners will be added in the future, according to Sunrise UPC.

“We are delighted that the National League continues to place its trust in us. Together, we will develop the sport of ice hockey and the associated entertainment offers over the next five years. With our commitment, we want to write the next chapter in the success story of the Swiss national game, of MySports and of Sunrise UPC and offer all fans a unique home of hockey,” said André Krause, CEO of Sunrise UPC.
