TikTok launches Android TV app

TikTok has launched a big-screen app for Android TV.

Looking like the app which launched in the UK on Samsung TVs late last year, videos play vertically in a main feed which provides access to specific categories. Users can also view their own and other profiles.

There have however been multiple reports that the app is unavailable on the Google Play store on some devices. Even when logged in, some users have reported geoblocking error messages.

Since those reports, Google has clarified that the app is currently available on Google and Android TV OS devices in the UK, France and Germany.

Rich Waterworth, General Manager, TikTok UK, said: “We’re excited to bring the creativity and joy of TikTok to Google TV and other Android TV OS devices across Europe. The TikTok on TV experience will be a new way for people to come together and enjoy videos from some of our most popular content categories on the big screen.

“Whether it’s learning a new skill or just having some fun together watching what you love, now more than ever, I feel this is a brilliant way for people to be able to enjoy their favourite TikTok content together at home.”
