DTVE Digital Symposium tackles the bandwidth challenge facing operators in the post-COVID-19 era

The COVID-19 lockdown has seen massive spikes in broadband consumption and in the use of streaming video. Broadband connectivity has never been more important in delivering reliable premium service offerings.

However, video service providers face big challenges in continuing to upgrade their infrastructure in a way that makes economic sense in the face of increased demand for always-on, reliable broadband and entertainment services.

In the forthcoming DTVE Digital Symposium session on the bandwidth challenge on September 29, a panel of leading industry experts will discuss the impact of the pandemic, service providers’ ability to respond to massive growth in demand for bandwidth for streaming and the technology and investment choices they face as they address increasing demand for capacity.

This discussion, moderated by Stuart Thomson, Editor of Digitial TV Europe, will feature contributions from Broadpeak’s VP of Business Development, Xiavier Leclercq, Blago Giorgiievski, Access & Capacity Tribe Lead, Telenet, Oualid Saddi, Head Of Solutions Architecture, Bouygues Telecom and John Kendall, Associate Director, Research and Analysis, Media Delivery, Omdia.

To introduce this session, Omdia’s John Kendall will cover:

  • How has COVID-19 affected the use of broadband in the home, and how has customer behavior and expectation changed as a result?
  • Where should service providers direct their strategic focus to serve the new demands for broadband bandwidth?
  • What are the main challenges presented in a COVID and post-COVID-19 environment? What have been the immediate solutions?
  • What are the long-term solutions after weathering the short-term crisis of COVID? How will the future network evolve?

In the panel discussion, we will address the following questions:

  • What are the key challenges service providers are facing in meeting bandwidth demand before and after COVID-19?
  • What do service providers need to do to ensure a continuous high Quality of Experience for subscribers?
