Plantronics picks up TV veteran Dave Shull as CEO

Dave Shull, the former CEO of TiVo and The Weather Channel, has landed at  audio communications equipment firm Plantronics.

Plantronics – which is currently undergoing a rebrand to Poly following its US$2 billion acquisition of Polycom in 2018 – is a producer of audio communications equipment for business and consumers.

Dave Shull meanwhile was appointed CEO of TiVO in May 2019 and left a year later following the merger of it and Xperi.

This appointment marks a somewhat drastic change of course for Shull who has been a recognised figure in the TV industry for over 15 years. Prior to TiVo, the exec served as CEO of The Weather Channel for four years and held various executive roles at DISH Network/EchoStar for 10 years, including executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

Robert Hagherty, the Plantronics chairman who also served as interim CEO, said: “Dave is a technology veteran whose global operations and telecommunications expertise, together with his extensive leadership experience and fresh insights, make him an outstanding leader for Poly.

“The addition of an enthusiastic, creative thinker like Dave is, in the Board’s view, a recipe for long-term success and growth. On behalf of the Board, I am pleased to welcome Dave to the Poly family.”

Shull said: “This is a pivotal time in Poly’s history, and I am excited to lead this talented team during this transformational period.”

The markets did not react kindly to Shull’s appointment, with the company’s stock falling by 7% in the wake of the news.
