Eutelsat signs back-up deal with SMS Teleport

Independent UK teleport Satellite Mediaport Services Ltd. (SMS Teleport) has signed a deal with commercial satellite operator Eutelsat to provide back-up teleport-based broadcast satellite services for its EUTELSAT 8 West B satellite. 

The deal will see SMS Teleport provide Eutelsat with redundant teleport services from its Rugby, UK teleport.

In conjunction with Eutelsat’s Paris-Rambouillet teleport – which provides the primary uplink to the satellite – and connected via a diverse fibre linkup, the two teleports ensure broadcasts from the EUTELSAT 8 West B across the Middle East and North Africa.

EUTELSAT 8 West B provides video to the 8° West neighbourhood. Its output reaches over 90% of TV homes in the MENA region.
