Nordic Entertainment (NENT) has secured the exclusive Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish media rights to the English Premier League.
The latest deal is for six years from 2022 to 2028. NENT currently holds the Premier League rights in Sweden, Denmark and Finland until 2022, and the new agreement extends those rights to Norway. NENT last year agreed the merger of Viasat Consumer – NENT’s satellite pay TV and broadband TV operations – with Norwegian telco Telenor’s Canal Digital, which operates across the Nordic region.
The Premier League deal means that NENT will be able to offer coverage of the tournament on its Viaplay streaming service and pay TV and free TV channels across the entire Nordic region for the first time. It also marks the first time the Premier League has sold rights in Europe for a six-year period.
The Premier League rights in the Nordic region are the first to be sold in any geography for the cycle beginning with the 2022-2023 season.
