Telefónica reportedly to tap Mediapro for La Liga production

Telefónica has contracted production company and broadcaster Mediapro to produce its coverage of La Liga football, according to a report by financial newspaper El Español.

According to the paper has tapped the Catalan outfit to provide recording, distribution and production of all matches that will aired on the new Movistar La Liga service, which will supplant Mediapro’s own BeIN La Liga as the vehicle for top tier Spanish football after the telco secured the rights to La Liga for itself.

According to the newspaper, the telco recognised that Mediapro was the only company with the necessary production expertise to produce coverage of Spain’s leading league.

The forthcoming season will see Telefónica hold rights to both La Liga and Champions League competitions in its own right for the first time, having previously sub-licensed the rights to air matches.

Telefónica last year secured rights to La Liga and subsequently struck a deal with Mediapro to take over the latter’s Champions League and Europa League rights for the next three seasons.
