Scottish broadcaster STV has launched an ad-free subscription video-on-demand service, STV Player+, that will be available to viewers at home and abroad.
The direct-to-consumer offering will allow subscribers to view STV content in Europe for the first time – including shows like Coronation Street, Britain’s Got Talent and the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
STV Player+ will offer live and on-demand STV programming in HD without pre-roll advertising, with viewers also able to download content to watch offline.
The service is priced at £3.99 per-month and is available on iOS devices. Other platform launches to follow “in due course”.
“Subscription viewing is growing, and the STV Player+ offers our viewers even greater choice and flexibility in how they watch STV, ensuring that they can access their favourite STV shows however and whenever they want, whether at home or abroad,” said Richard Williams, STV’s managing director of digital.
Last year, STV announced a new strategic growth plan for the business, creating a dedicated digital division to drive growth through the STV Player. The broadcaster also recently extended the reach of the service by striking deals with Sky and Virgin Media.
