Mediapro to take over programming of DTT channel TEN

Spanish broadcaster and producer Mediapro has struck an agreement with digital-terrestrial channel provider TEN whereby it will take over the provision of content for the TEN Televisión channel.

TEN Televisón began broadcasting on Spain’s DTT network in April 2016. Mediapro said its agreement with TEN would lead to the programming of a channel that is “more attractive” for Spanish viewers. The group said that its “extensive experience” as provider of content for both thematic and generalist TV channels would enable it to contribute to the development of TEN Televisión on the digital-terrestrial platform.

TEN owner Grupo Secuoya won one of three licences granted for standard definition channels on the DTT platform at the end of 2015 for a generalist channel, providing a mix of entertainment, docu-shows and reality programmes.

Mediapro already operates one free-to-view channel on the DTT platform – sports channel Gol.

The deal with Mediapro comes after a period when Secuoya was reportedly seeking a partner for the channel, including with international groups such as Sony Fox, and Discovery. Since its launch, TEN has failed to make a signfican impact in terms of audience share, while advertising on the DTT platform has been dominated by Mediaset and Atresmedia.
