The pilot will be based on DOCSIS 3.1. Some 20 households and companies in the Oog district of Utrecht will test the high-speed service via the VodafoneZiggo cable network over the next few months.
The operator has set a target of preparing its entire network for 1Gbps service by 2020. VodafoneZiggo said it wants to enable high-speed fixed-mobile convergence, enabling customers to switch seamlessly between fixed and mobile.
Eben Albertyn, VodafoneZiggo’s technical director, said that the company was “building the network of the future today”, leaning on technical developments that will “offer countless new, smart possibilities that will enrich our lives”.
